Face of the Day, Tuesday 4/22

Skin Condition in AM: Normal
Makeup Condition in PM: Flaky and Dry

Observations and Additional Information:
In contrast to yesterday, today was a good makeup day. Everything just seemed to work together, which unfortunately is not captured by the picture to the right.

The only thing I did differently today was not put moisturizer on after my sunscreen. We'll see how much of a mistake that was this afternoon. (Update: it was a mistake; cannot skip moisturizer.)

I swear the Wet 'n' Wild Walking on Eggshells is the best eye shadow I have in my drawer - and it was like $2 compared to the $52 for the Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette. I used the crease as an eyeliner again, over the NYX bronze.

Okay, so maybe it's working a little. I don't feel like it's working enough though. I go in for a follow-up on Friday so I'll see what she has to say then.

Face of the Day, Monday 4/21

Skin Condition in AM: Normal
Makeup Condition in PM: Okay

Observations and Additional Information:
Today wasn't a good makeup day in general. I don't know if it's my breakouts or what, but I just wasn't feeling it.

I didn't try anything special - I was definitely retaining water this morning because my feet felt tight in my shoes. You can see it in my face too.

Drank way too much this weekend ... ate way too much junk.

Observations and Additional Information:
Oy. Popping fest over the weekend did not do me any favors. May also be purging from exfoliants? Regardless, if I'd just stop touching my damned face all the time this would get better!

Have deep one developing on my upper nose. It hurts. It's actually making the bridge of my nose swell up. See it there on the left side in that pic to the right?

Popped one on my chin tonight that looked like it was going to give birth at any moment.

Too little sleep. Too much alcohol on Saturday night. Too much zit popping Saturday night after too much alcohol.

I swear to God, I will never learn. I was at it again tonight too! Chin and one side of face look so bad that Eleanor suggested I get X Out, which I'm assuming is some sort of zit cream they're marketing on Nickelodeon during commercial breaks.

Shit. Stop popping zits, Megs.

Observations and Additional Information:
I tried the Missha BB Cream today and though I wasn't wild about it, looking at these pictures is making me do a double take.

I used the Wayne Goss foundation method based on reviews I'd read online about the Missha. It seemed to go on pretty well.

And who can complain about the Wet 'n' Wild Walking on Eggshells eye shadow trio? I used it as a liner too and I love the way it came out! I'm going to have to do this for work next week.

I wish you could see the braided headband that's in my hair because it's super cute.

RAVE: Goody Spin Pins

I can't remember the last time I was this excited about a bobby pin, but holy crap: these are a must try. I saw this YouTube Video this week (and holy crap: I am very late to this party; it was uploaded in 2010) and figured I would pick some up the next time I saw them.

Of course, I went to Target to specifically look for them but if anyone asks it was to get Easter candy. Good news - they're on sale B2G1 this week, so naturally I bought 3. I knew I needed light ones for the girls' hair, and dark ones for mine, but I couldn't decide on the size for Eleanor since her hair is so long. (Turns out that the short ones work just fine for her so I'll be exchanging the longer ones.)

Anyway. About the spin pins. I spent more time trying different styles in the girls' hair (and forgot to take pics) than I did in my own, but I was able to throw this little nugget together in under 60 seconds. Imagine if my hair was a bit longer, or I spent more time on it. Seriously impressed with how little effort it took to create the tiniest French Roll that ever existed.

It's the world's smallest French Roll. Call Guinness.

Face of the Day, Thursday 4/17

It was a no makeup, makeup kind of day.
Skin Condition in AM: Normal
Makeup Condition in PM: Perfect

Observations and Additional Information:
Today was my favorite makeup day this week - and it was "no makeup, makeup". The Etude House went on so well - I used two pumps, but one pump at a time. I worked from home today so I really let my sunscreen soak in before applying moisturizer - and I really let that sit before applying the BB Cream. And my ELF shipment arrived last night, carrying my new cream blush/contour. I LOVE IT. It went on so smoothly over the BB Cream.

I can't get the under eye concealer thing right - it's seriously settling into my fine lines. I took a trip to Ulta to browse around and one of their employees was kind enough to try and help me out. She recommended Philosophy's Eye Hope, explaining that hydration was the most important part of fine lines. Unfortunately, when I applied it I felt a tingling so I took it off immediately. (Now I'm wondering if there's something else going on though, because tonight when I applied the eye cream I have leftover from Rodan + Fields, I felt the same thing. It's since subsided.)

Because I didn't wear eyeliner today, I suspect that there's something happening there that's causing the fallout. I did have a little bit from my mascara, but nothing like what's been happening recently. The strange thing is that I've been using the Lancome Liner Noir for years, and I've never had this issue before. I'll figure it out. Eventually.

It's hard to see the blush in these pictures (I'd look like a clown IRL if I wore enough blush for it to show up well in pics, but seriously - the ELF Studio Blush & Bronzing Cream is amazing in conjunction with the Etude House BB Cream.

How cute is that little photo bomber in the back?
Observations and Additional Information:
Not much change from yesterday. Applying the Differing two nights in a row didn't seem to affect my skin so I'm totally going to continue with it. Considering spot treating my chin area with the Paula's Choice BHA 9 to flush out the blackheads and closed comedones. But combining that with the Differin feels a little like playing Russian Roulette. We've got the neighborhood Easter egg hunt tomorrow morning so I'm not really looking to look like Pizza the Hut. Yeah, I've made my mind up as I was typing this. I'm going to skip the Differin tonight and instead apply the BHA 9. Fingers crossed.

Warning, TMI ahead: As an aside, can I just note a nicety about getting older? It's CD 6 and I haven't had to wear a tampon since CD 4.

As another aside, I am not sure the Botox is working. It feels a little bit tighter, but I still have full range of movement. A little paranoid I just wasted $500.

Face of the Day, Wednesday 4/16

Skin Condition in AM: Normal
Makeup Condition in PM: a little patchy on the chin

Observations and Additional Information:
I forgot to put on lip gloss before taking this pic.

My mascara is looking really good these days, but is it contributing to the fallout I'm experiencing under my eyes? God knows I don't need any additional darkness around my awful bags - so I really need to figure out what's happening there.

Despite yesterday's faults with application, I decided to give it another shot. I applied the BB cream long before the Nivea soaked in, and that went nearly straight on top of the sunscreen. So I certainly didn't give everything time.

That being said I got told twice today how pretty I looked. One of those was from the Husband, but still. A compliment's a compliment as far as I'm concerned.

Observations and Additional Information:
Skin's looking better every day. Man those dark circles/bags under my eyes are terrible, eh? I think I'm going to throw caution to the wind and use the Differin tonight since I'm working from home tomorrow. If I wake up looking like I might flake away, it'll be okay. Dr. Duncan didn't say to ease into the Differin ... but the internetz did and if you read it on the internet (all together now) it must be true!

I didn't let my sunscreen soak in long enough before applying my moisturizer this morning. It pilled a small bit and I also think it might be contributing to my makeup fallout under my eyes.

Face of the Day, Tuesday 4/15

Skin Condition in AM: Normal
Makeup Condition in PM: Dry Patches on Chin

Observations and Additional Information:
I keep trying different applications for the Etude BB Cream hoping to find that magical combo. (I outlined the different ones I've tried in my review.)

Today I used a primer on my eyes hoping to avoid the fallout I saw yesterday - not sure it worked; I still had raccoon eyes at the end of the day. I used light moisturizer, applied the BB Cream (just 1 pump) and then set everything with the powder. I also used the setting spray to add back some of the dewiness I lost when applying the powder. Can't tell if that was a mistake or not - but I know something was off when I looked in the mirror upon returning to my car late this afternoon.

It was a flake-fest of epic proportions on my chin. That being said, I am thinking this has more to do with the Differin than it does the makeup application. Still, though, I'll probably go back to the first day's method tomorrow.

The other thing I'm not wild about is the number my glasses are doing on my foundation (and I don't think it's a product issue as this has been happening for weeks). It's like the base is pooling on my nose under where the glasses rest. I'm going to have to start carrying a compact, aren't I? Lookit who's all grown up.

Left: Before work; Middle: Chin at the end of the work day; Right: Face at the end of the work day.
You can somewhat see what's happening under my glasses on my nose.
I totally took my glasses off in a meeting today too. Rats.

These pictures of me without makeup on
the internet are really starting to scare me.
Cycle Day #4
Skin Condition in AM: Normal
Skin Condition in PM: Dry Patches on Chin
Washed Hair: No

Observations and Additional Information:
No new blemishes today so that is awesome! The chin is starting to heal nicely too. I'm really liking my routine right now. I definitely feel like cutting out the fatty alcohols was a step in the right direction. I'm going to have to address it in my conditioner soon or else I'm going to continue to break out in my hairline. Of course that could have to do with the fact that I CANNOT STOP PICKING AT THE SPOTS IN MY HAIRLINE (ya think, Megs?!).

I gave my chin some extra attention tonight during the mineral oil cleanse - used the baby washcloth as a physical exfoliator for the dry patches. Suspect they may be from the differin, but it's strange that they're just showing up this afternoon. Toyed with the idea of breaking out the Clarisonic Mia, but ultimately decided I may aggravate my skin more. Too many new products within the last week to also add real physical exfoliation into the mix.

These pics are not in natural light as the sun had already set by the time I finally washed my face. Only thing on the face at this point was the C15. You can't see the dry flakes here - also wondering if that had to do with the BB cream/powder combination. See FOTD from 4/15 for details.

RAVE: Etude House Bright Fit N02

Etude House Bright Fit BB Cream
I could totally just link to this post: P.S. Your Skin Looks Amazing for this review because what sums it up more than a compliment like that? Especially if you know what was really underneath that BB Cream!

But I'm going to try and be thorough here and talk about my undying love and adoration of this product. I suppose it's important to understand where I was in my quest for the perfect foundation before finding this lovely concoction of P.S. Your Skin Looks Amazing. I'd posted on reddit the following:
If you have dry skin, how do you keep your makeup looking nice all day? It's like my makeup is soaking up all my moisture. I'm not sure what else to do. My skin feels great in the morning after my cerave/aquaphor slathering overnight and my makeup looks fine. But then I look in the mirror when I get in my car after work and I'm like OMG who is this scary lady looking back at me??
My use of two question marks should signify my absolute desperation because I am not one for abusing punctuation without just cause. So when a user suggested Asian BB Creams as good foundations for dry skin, I ordered two right away (the other hasn't arrived yet).

One of these is not like the other.
If I have to have a complaint it's that the staying power doesn't seem to be what I'd like, but I have a feeling that's application error, not product shortfalls. I have been trying different ways to apply it and I just don't think I've found that perfect combo yet.

The first day (left), I applied it over my moisturizer and it was super dewy, though you really can't tell in the pic. I also used either 2 or 3 pumps that first day. The next day (middle) I used less product and applied it over a primer. Today (right), I used only one pump, no primer, but used a translucent powder over it to set it. I'm not sure which application I like the best but I think the pic on the left looks the most polished. So I think I'm going to try that application tomorrow. The other thing that worries me about today's application is that I ended up with some dry patches on my chin - however, I think that this may be the differin finally telling me to fuck off.
One of these days I'll figure out how to take pics is the same sort of lighting so they all look similar enough. The seatbelt is a dead giveaway for where I usually take my selfies  - I'd love to say it has to do with the lighting but the truth is that I use my rear view mirror to see the display screen of my phone so I can use the real camera to take the pics.
Where to buy:
If you're willing to wait on shipping from Korea, go the eBay route. It's much cheaper. But if you're impatient like me, order from a US eBay seller before realizing it's basically the same price through Amazon.
I'll figure out the application in due time, but one thing's for sure: this BB cream is a keeper. Here's what Etude House has to say about their Bright Fit product:
BB Cream formulated with Pearl Powder with an improved adhesive texture to promote moist, radiant looking skin while protecting against UV damage and wrinkles.
Yep, I'd say that's a wrap.

P.S. Your Skin Looks Amazing

P.S. your skin looks amazing
So I sent this picture to my sister last night because it looks so much like her I did a double-take when uploading it for my FOTD. She replied, "Holy Moly, that's crazy!"

And 20 minutes later sent, "P.S. your skin looks amazing."

OH MY GOD. She said my skin looks amazing. My skin. Amazing.

I've been on cloud 9 since I read her response this morning. I am pretty sure I walked around the office humming a tune I like to call P.S. your skin is amazing. I am absolutely sure I walked around the office like I had just been crowned Miss America. Or Mrs. America, as the case may be.

It's a crying shame I've already named this blog and purchased the domain because if I could do it all over again, I'd name it P.S. Your Skin Looks Amazing.

FOTD, Monday 4/14

It was an all-black kind of day. My
eye shadow even decided to join the party
at the end of the day (pic below).
Skin Condition in AM: Normal
Makeup Condition in PM: Fair

Observations and Additional Information:
Today I applied very little moisturizer and then used a primer before the BB cream. It was definitely a less dewy application, but the foundation tended to stick to my flakes (that were there because I PICKED AT THE PIMPLE).

I definitely liked the way the application looked this morning but I'm wondering what the heck was going on under my eyes because I had some fallout that I never suffer from that I noticed in the afternoon. I did apply the BB cream under my eyes, so maybe that's it? Or maybe it's the eye shadow that I put on pretty heavily (which strangely cannot be seen in these pictures).

I definitely did a better job with my eyebrows today. After I saw yesterday's pics, I realized I have some sparseness that I can't see well in the bathroom mirror.

Observations and Additional Information:
No real change from yesterday to today. I definitely made the chin monster angry by poking and prodding it.

Skin looks pretty poor in these photos, but I'm not going to stress too much about it. It's amazing what the camera picks up that we are totally immune to seeing in the mirror. Like take that slouching eye on the left. I don't even see it when I'm looking in the mirror, but because in pics I'm seeing myself the opposite way I'm used to, it's the very first thing I notice. It'll be no small miracle if the Botox fixes that.

Soon enough I'll have the skin of a 20-something and I'll start getting carded for cigarettes again. Oh wait, I quit smoking. (Soon to be a year!)

Ooh la la, now that's some pretty lovely acne.

Cycle Day #2
4/13 Getting better at taking selfies; this
one only took 15 takes!
Skin Condition in AM: Normal
Skin Condition in PM: Normal
Washed Hair: No

Observations and Additional Information:
Blemishes: Forehead pimple seems a bit smaller; couldn't resist popping the old chinny, chin, chin.

It's hard to see it in this picture, but my chin is a bit angrier today than it was yesterday. I skipped the Differin last night because I was concerned about drying out, but I think I may try it tonight. Dr. Duncan had said to put it on every night and power through the 'it gets worse before it gets better' stage but everything I'm reading says to slowly acclimate my skin to the product, so I'm going to do that. (In Dr. Duncan's defense, it was a last minute issuing of samples and she knows nothing about my skin outside of the Botox appointment.)

My pores are still pretty visible and the sebaceous filaments on my nose are as well. But I've only been using the new BHA for less than a week so I definitely need some time. As an aside, I'm going to be pretty annoyed with myself for starting so many new products at once (check out Wednesday, the 9th) because I'm never going to know which one is my Holy Grail. Ah well, it's not like I'm ever going to stop tinkering with my routine anyway.

I definitely feel like my skin is improving regardless of which product deserves the credit. And I totally cannot believe I'm putting naked photos of my face out there for the whole world to see. Except no one but me (and the husband) knows this place exists anyway.
